Dental West on Manhattan’s Upper West Side is founded on the premise that patients should keep their “original equipment”: their own teeth! We are a minimally invasive dental practice that focuses on prevention as the way to help you achieve that goal. We take hygiene seriously and make sure that you leave not only with clean teeth but with healthy gum tissue as well. We use a laser to disinfect your gum pockets of bacteria, leaving your mouth even healthier than with a traditional cleaning.

Cutting Edge Laser Dentistry

LPD (laser pocket disinfection) is revolutionary for dentistry. You may also hear this procedure called Laser Bacterial Reduction (LBR) or Laser Periodontal Therapy (LPT). LPD is a laser procedure that kills gum-disease-causing bacteria more completely than manual instruments could ever do.

Laser pocket disinfection penetrates to the bottom of the sulcus (space between the gum and tooth), neutralizing bacteria for the next 11 and a half weeks. The traditional cleanings that you’ve had before cannot reach the bacteria that sits beyond 3mm in the sulcus. As such, the bacteria is never completely eliminated. This revolutionary laser procedure goes even beyond what a deep cleaning can do.

Dr. Leora Walter

Dr. Leora Walter is a surgically trained prosthodontist and founder of Dental West on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. She is one of a handful of elite dentists highly trained in both restorative and cosmetic procedures as well as in surgical implant dentistry. The additional fellowships that Dr. Walter completed helped her hone her practice philosophy of minimally invasive and preventative dentistry using the most advanced technology. Dr. Walter teaches her craft to general dentists where she is the Course Director of Prosthodontics and Clinical Attending at Woodhull Medical Center. She stays up-to-date with current literature and contributes to both medical and dental journals. Dr. Walter is a nationally and internationally recognized lecturer, teaching other dentists and specialists.

Dr. Reginald Moncrieff

Dr. Moncrieff, a general dentist in NYC, has had a career spanning over 40 years, combining private practice with public service. He founded the current dental practice in 1980 and renamed it Dental West to honor his new collaboration with Dr. Walter. It is thanks to Dr. Moncrieff’s holistic and patient centered mindset that we have been able to provide a culture of excellent dental care for the past four decades.

A graduate of University of Alberta and University of Victoria in Canada, Dr. Moncrieff came to the United States to study at New York University College of Dentistry. As a student, he developed Oral Hygiene Instruction for Preschoolers, which was presented locally and nationally.

Dr. Moncrieff completed his general practice residency at Mount Sinai Hospital, where he became a volunteer clinical instructor and then became the Coordinator of the GPR Program during the 80s. He continued volunteering until 2019.

Dr. Moncrieff joined the Children’s Aid Society where his love of children and the development of his hygiene instruction was put to use. He served for a decade as staff dentist at Kateri nursing home, which led to the publication of Nursing Home Dentistry in the New York State Dental Society Journal in 1998. Most recently, Dr. Moncrieff volunteered with the New York City Emergency Medical Corp, administering COVID vaccines in West Harlem.

STAY CALM

If you experience some sort of dental accident, the best thing you can do is to stay calm. While you may feel inclined to panic due to the pain and stress of an injury, you can take comfort knowing it can be treated, and our team is here to help get you back to a healthy, pain-free smile.

REDUCE BLEEDING

Once you’ve gained control of the situation, take assessment of your injury. If you’re experiencing any bleeding, place a strip of gauze on the site of the injury and apply pressure with your by biting down on the gauze.

CONTROL SWELLING

Over-the-counter medications like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help to temporarily reduce pain and swelling. However, steer clear of any blood-thinning medications like aspirin. An ice pack or cold compress can be applied to the cheek near the affected area to help reduce pain and inflammation.

How can I use my Member Exclusive discount for restorative, elective or cosmetic treatment?

Simply schedule an appointment with our office and be sure to tell us you’re a member. When you arrive, we’ll make sure your membership is “current” and you will be eligible for instant savings off our regular fees.

How do I know if I need Perio membership?

If you’re a current patient, please contact us to confirm you’re on Perio Maintenance. If you are a new patient, we will make a recommendation after your initial exam.

What happens if I miss an appointment?

It will be your responsibility to reschedule. Please see our office policy regarding no-shows and last minute cancellations.

Can I add members to my account?

Absolutely! Your entire family can join.

Can I transfer my membership to another dentist?

Your club membership is solely with our office and as such is non-transferrable. If you move to another area, you may cancel your membership at any time.

How can I check on the status of my account?

Login to your Member Portal and look under Account Members. You’ll see the status of each member above his/her name.

Can I change or update my billing information?

Yes! Simply login to your Member Portal and click “Edit Your Payment Method”.

How do I cancel my membership?

Login to your Member Portal and click the “Remove” button for each member you’d like to cancel.

If I cancel, can I get a refund on my membership?

No. Refunds will not be provided for dues paid under any circumstances, including failure to schedule and maintain appointments.

How much do I pay to sign up for my club membership?

You’ll pay only the Lifetime Activation fee to join. This fee includes your first month’s membership dues.

Can I prepay my membership fees?
